Judicial system coping with increasing crime

RIDGWAY – With the number of criminal cases filed in Elk County on pace for a record high, changes within the county judicial system are imminent.
Commissioners and county salary board members on Tuesday voted to eliminate two county intermediate punishment program [IPP] positions and create two additional adult probation officer positions.

Work continues on courthouse clock tower

RIDGWAY – Restoration work and exterior repairs are still underway on the courthouse clock tower in downtown Ridgway.
Commissioners recently approved a change order for $18,000 to replace damaged artificial slate.

Patricia Jeanne Clifford “Jeanne”, 85, of 78 Station St., Daguscahonda, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Utica, daughter of the late Otto Fredericks and Genevieve Cratty Stitzinger.

St. Marys senior softball stars beat Elk County 12-2 in five innings

The St. Marys Little League Softball Senior All-Stars advanced to the finals of the District 10 Senior Tournament with a 12-2, five-inning victory over the Elk County squad Monday night at Benzinger Park.

St. Marys senior baseball all-stars win 26-2

The St. Marys Little League Baseball Senior League All-Star team opened their run in the District 10 Tournament with a big 26-2 victory over the Smethport/Mt. Jewett squad on Monday evening at Memorial Park. The game was called after St. Marys scored eight runs and still had the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the fifth inning.

St. Marys minor stars rally past Punxsy 10-9

The St. Marys Little League Baseball Minor League All-Star team kept their run in the District 10 Tournament alive with a 10-9 come-from-behind victory over Punxsutawney on Monday evening in a game played at Memorial Park.

St. Marys Legion takes a pair from Brockway

The St. Marys American Legion Post 103 squad was back in action on Monday evening as they took on Brockway in a doubleheader at Berwind Park. Both games lasted five innings. St. Marys won 15-3 in the first game and 13-0 in the second game.

Seismic testing happening in Ridgway

Seneca Resources, who notified Ridgway residents of their intentions to conduct seismic testing in late spring, has recently brought a team to Ridgway in order to conduct the tests.
Seismic Equipment Solutions in conjunction with Blueline Geo out of Forth Worth, Texas, have set up shop off of Front Street in Ridgway and are reportedly testing areas in the Boot Jack and state Route 120 areas.

Grants received for park renovations

In undertaking a multi-park renovation project, the St. Marys Recreation Board has secured numerous grants from various charitable trust organizations.
"We're really happy to have the three local foundations involved in this project," Tina Gradizzi, St. Marys Community and Economic Development Coordinator said. "They all have been very supportive."
