Lady Dutch volleyball blanks Lady Elkers 3-0

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team ran their record to 3-1 on the season as they defeated the Ridgway Lady Elkers by a 3-0 score last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.

Lady Crusader tennis team defeats Johnsonburg 7-2

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader tennis team defeated the Johnsonburg Ramettes by a 7-2 score in a match played at Johnsonburg Thursday.

ECC golfers fall to Bradford 216-226

The Elk County Catholic High School golf team suffered their second loss in a row on Thursday afternoon when the lost to the Bradford Owls by 10 strokes, 216-226, at Leaning Pines Public Golf Course.

Kane woman accepts plea deal in 6-fatality crash

SMETHPORT – A Kane woman charged in a horrific 6-fatality traffic accident last year has accepted a plea agreement that suggests a minimum sentence of 11 1/2 years in prison.
Kathy Douglas, 37, entered the plea Thursday before Senior Judge William F. Morgan at the McKean County Courthouse.
The judge set sentencing for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the courthouse. Morgan said he as the "sentencing judge" is not bound by the proposed terms in the agreement, which sets the maximum sentence of 22 1/2 years. 

Firearms seminar addresses several issues

KERSEY – A sizable crowd of inquiring residents gathered Thursday evening for a concealed carry permit seminar hosted by state Representative Matt Gabler (R-Elk/Clearfield) at the Red Fern Banquet Hall.
Facts about Pennsylvania's concealed carry laws, Castle Doctrine and right to bear arms were the focus of the seminar, although numerous other subjects were discussed as part of the question and answer event format such as reciprocity agreements with other states, keeping an updated firearm inventory, and transporting and transferring ownership of firearms.

Jury finds Buehler not guilty on charges

RIDGWAY – A jury found Krisha Lynn Buehler, 33, not guilty on charges of endangering welfare of children and corruption of minors at Elk County Court on Thursday.
Buehler, who was represented by attorney James L. Martin, was charged with allegedly providing her son, 13, with marijuana to smoke on Jan. 1 at the Krouse residence in Wilcox.
"I never gave any kid any marijuana," Buehler said on the witness stand. "I believe this was instigated by his father."

Maxine H. Fink

Maxine H. Fink, 85, formerly of Elk Avenue, Ridgway, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
She was born July 31, 1929 in Mill Hall, daughter of the late Charles and Trenna Bridges Bowman.
She was married to John E. Fink who preceded her in death Jan. 16, 1994.
She enjoyed reading.
