Governor write-in campaign using social media

One man in Collegeville is trying to impact this year's governor election through a campaign driven solely through social media and the press.
Dave Naples, a 49-year-old resident of Collegeville, has started a write-in campaign for governor of Pennsylvania, which will run without any donated campaign funding.
Naples stated that his campaign started in response to the large amounts of money that are being spent by this year's candidates, incumbent Tom Corbett, and Tom Wolf, towards their campaigns.
"The amount of money that is being hurled at these things is ludicrous," Naples said.

9-year-old culprit in school shooting hoax

Events that sent St. Marys into a panic Tuesday afternoon with reports of a shooting at St. Marys Area High School were the actions of a nine-year-old juvenile, whose age prohibits criminal prosecution, according to police who are unable to release any identifying information such as name, gender and school.
As a result of a joint investigation between the St. Marys City Police and Pennsylvania State Police, it was discovered that the juvenile placed the 911 calls from a cell phone while he/she was riding on a school bus on their way home.

Judge upholds police search in 6-fatality crash case

SMETHPORT – A judge has upheld a police search involving the defendant in a criminal case linked with a 6-fatality crash on Route 219 near Lantz Corners just over a year ago.
Senior Judge William F. Morgan of Warren issued his ruling Wednesday during a 40-minute hearing at the McKean County Courthouse in Smethport.
The judge’s decision comes less than two weeks before the scheduled Sept. 15 start of a jury trial for Kathy Douglas, 37, of Kane. Another pre-trial “suppression-of-evidence” hearing is set for next Thursday, Sept. 11.

Road signs, repairs topics in Fox Twp.

FOX TWP. – Fox Township Supervisors discussed several issues during their Wednesday meeting among which pertained to water quality in roadside springs and details of a park storage shed.
In addition, a conditional use application was unanimously approved for EQT for a proposed gas well in Toby.
The conditional use hearing took place Aug. 6 with the township.

Gail J. Gerg

Gail J. Gerg, 79, of 509 West Main St., Ridgway, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk.
He was born Feb. 15, 1935 in St. Marys, son of the late Harry and Margaret Cunningham Gerg.
He married Roselyn Schilk, she survives him.
He was a commercial electrician by trade, and he served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was also a member of the Ridgway Legion and Elks.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael and Daniel Gerg; step-children Timothy, Christine, Stephanie, Mary and Charles; and several grandsons, granddaughters and many great-grandchildren.

Edward Pretti, 73, of Johnstown, formerly of Clearfield, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014.
Born Sept. 10, 1940, in Force, he was the son of the late Tullio and Fiore (Fedrizzi) Pretti.
He graduated from Huston Township High School and Williamsport Technological Institute. Edward served in the U.S. Army and Reserves. He was a retired machinist, working for DuPont and Berg Electronics. After retirement, he drove cars for Thomas GMC and Honda.

Nellie L. Brehm

Nellie L. Brehm, 85, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 2, 1929, a daughter of the late Carl and Doris Edner Chittister.
She was married to the late James A. Brehm, who preceded her in death.
Nellie was a graduate of Kane High School and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Together with her husband, they owned and operated Brehm's Family Restaurant in Emporium.
