Kathryn B. Heibel Rettger, 91, of Erie, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012 at UPMC Hamot.
She was born in Erie on Dec. 27, 1920, the daughter of the late Jerome and Edith Schaaf Heibel.
A graduate of East High School, she was employed as a custodian with the Erie School District, retiring in 1985. She was a life-long member of St. Mary's Church. She loved to play cards and put together jigsaw puzzles.
Alva J. "Monnie" Kirkland, 85, of 185 Center St., Elk Towers, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois after a brief illness.
She was born March 21, 1927 in St. Marys, daughter of the late David W. and Isabelle Krieg Caskey.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. She was a former employee of Airco Speer, and retired from GTE Sylvania and also worked at Keystone Carbon Co., and retired from Keystone.
She was married to Albert E. Kirland, who preceded her in death in 2000.
Angeline Gregori, 75, of Peach Street, Weedville, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2012 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
She was born July 9, 1937, in Cardiff, daughter of the late Martin and Theresa (Zambanini) Gregori.
She lived all her life in Bennetts Valley and was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Valley Legion Post 978 Auxiliary. She loved playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren.
James E. Cool, 70, of 524 Schissle St., St. Marys, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 11, 1942, in Sinnemahoning, son of the late Marion A. and Kathleen Foley Cool.
On Sept. 26, 1964, in the St. Mary's Church, he married Gail L. Wendel, who preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 2011.
He was a graduate of Cameron County High School, Class of 1960; a graduate of the DuBois Business College; and a graduate of Thiel College in Greenville.
Various community organizations recently collaborated in a toy challenge to collect Christmas presents for Project Gifts for Elk County.

Over the past few days, a number of area Verizon Wireless customers have reported experiencing issues with their cellphones temporarily being unable to send or receive text messages or phone calls.
When contacted by The Daily Press on Friday afternoon, Laura Merritt, Verizon Wireless' public relations manager for the Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, indicated that the company is aware of the problem.
Frank J. â€śCannonballâ€ť Carnovale, 92, of Market Street, Johnsonburg, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 at Elk Regional Hospital after a short illness.
He was born June 12, 1920 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Michael J. and Angela (Galati) Carnovale.
Mr. Carnovale was member of the Holy Rosary Church, Piedmont, Johnsonburg Moose, Legion and Sportsmenâ€™s. He had resided in Johnsonburg all his life. He served as an MP in the Army during WWII in the Asiatic/Pacific Theaters and retired from the Johnsonburg Paper Mill in 1982 after 43 years and being part of the Woodyard Spruce Gang.
Venice V. Blazejewski, 75, of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, and formerly of Niagara Falls, N.Y., died Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
She was born March 15, 1936, in Washington D.C., daughter of the late Merle and Pearl Daily Dent.
She had lived in St. Marys the past 1 1/2 years and was a graduate of Galton High School. She had been employed at Mercy Home Care in Niagara Falls.
The St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail is an important part of the community and is one of the organizations that receives funding through the St. Marys Area United Way.
