ECC hosts Johnsonburg this afternoon
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team put together a four-run first inning on Saturday and held on to win their home opener 6-1 over the visiting Brockway Lady Rovers in a contest played on a breezy but sunny afternoon at Benzinger Park.

A number of dandelions have been seen making an appearance around Memorial Park over the past few days. While they are currently a nice sight to see after the recent snowy weather, area residents will probably not be as happy to see them throughout their yards in the coming months.
With $300,000 in cyber charter schools tuition bills paid out by the St. Marys Area School District last year, the SMASD Board of Directors announced at Thursday's workshop meeting efforts to keep that money in district.

Monsignor John B. Hagerty, well known, well respected and a highly esteemed priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, died early Saturday morning, April 6, 2013 at Saint Mary Home at Asbury Ridge, Erie.
Monsignor Hagerty was born in Erie on January 1, 1930, the son of the late Bert and Olive Thompson Hagerty.
Pamela Leathers Bogan, 59, died unexpectedly at her home in Pittsburgh on Saturday, March 16, 2013.
A daughter of the late Armand and Viola Thomas Leathers, she was a graduate of Ridgway Area High School and recently an employee of Allied Barton Security Services at Point Park College.
She is survived by a sister, Doretta Leathers, of Blairsville; an aunt and uncle, Dr. and Mrs. John Leathers of State College; and by numerous cousins.
She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Louis L. Gerhart, 87, of Folino Drive, Wilcox, died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born December 18, 1925 in Kane, son of the late Louis L. and Sarah (Heasley) Gerhart, Sr.
On January 28, 1950 he married Elizabeth J. â€śBettyâ€ť Raubenstrauch, and she survives.
Born and raised in Kane, he lived in Johnsonburg from 1950-54, the DuBois area from 1954-97 and has been a Wilcox resident since 1997. He was a graduate of Kane High School.
The Elk County Catholic School System held its Fifth Annual Heritage Gala on Friday evening at The Red Fern in St. Marys. The theme of the gala centered around celebrating 50 years of success at Elk County Catholic High School. Among those honored were the school's seven former headmasters. Additionally, several retiring faculty members were also recognized for their dedicated years of service to the local Catholic school system.
A $1.14 million dollar price tag hangs on the installation of a new air conditioning system at South St. Marys Street Elementary School. The quote, along with a feasibility study detailing the project parameters, was provided to the St. Marys Area School District Board at Thursday's workshop meeting by KTH Architects, the firm charged with heading up the project.
HARRISBURG â€“ The Department of State took disciplinary actions against 55 licensed or commissioned professionals and organizations during the month of March, Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele announced today.
One Elk County entity was cited by the PA Board of Accountancy, with action taken against Howell and Company, Inc., license no. AF000693L, of St. Marys, on December 10, 2012. Howell and Company, Inc. was assessed a civil penalty in the amount of $3,500 for practicing on a lapsed license.
