Purple Heart recipients honored at Burial Detail banquet

Two Purple Heart award recipients were honored at the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail annual banquet held Saturday evening at the Bavarian Hills.
Donald Goetz and Ralph Samick received special recognition from the detail for their service. St. Marys Burial Servicemen's Burial Detail Sergeant-in-Charge Tom Price explained that this portion of the program was established a few years ago to honor area Purple Heart veterans.

Lady Dutch close out regular season with 42-37 win over Ramettes

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team closed out their regular season with a 42-37 victory over the Johnsonburg Ramettes Monday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven on Senior Night.

Valentine's Day Ball provides enjoyment for Pinecrest residents

The number of Confirmation candidates assisting with this year's Valentine's Day Ball at Pinecrest Manor may have been down, but the turnout from Pinecrest residents was very high as it was "a packed house" of "over 100 residents" for the annual event, according to Confirmation Facilitator Kathy Reuscher.

Lady Dutch use strong second half to beat Lady Crusaders 32-26

SMA hosts Johnsonburg tonight. The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team used a strong second half to come from behind to defeat the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders by a 32-26 score Saturday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.

Margaret E. Jackie Sarnoski, 73, of Landis Rd., Sabula, 73, of Landis Road, Sabula, died early Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 18, 1939 in DuBois, the daughter of the late Jack and Margaret Gallagher. She married Stanley Sarnoski, who preceded her in death.

Gertrude M. Hyatt, 89, of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of 101 N. Mill St., Ridgway, died peacefully Feb. 8, 2013.
She was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Ridgway, the daughter of the late of Ulrich and Julia Montgomery Amacher.
On April 24, 1948, she married Thomas A. Hyatt in Bellefonte. He preceded her in death Aug. 28, 1993.

According to eyewitness reports, Richard Pratt, 42, was stopped at the light at the bottom of Montmorenci Road in Ridgway early Sunday evening at when he heard brakes screeching behind him. His 2008 Chevy Silverado pickup was rear-ended by a 2002 Mazda Tribute driven by a known 19-year-old. According to reports, the Mazda had swerved to avoid the Chevy, but both back ends collided, leaving the Mazda's tailgate hanging from the truck's. The car then proceeded about a quarter mile down Gillis Avenue to the SAMI building's parking lot. The Ridgway Fire Department and the Ridgway-based Pa.
