Thomas Alvin Terwilliger, 82, of 19 Hiram St., Brookville, died Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Veterans Hospital in Oakland.
He was born December 5, 1928 in Cadogan Township, son of the late Homer and Mildred Bortz Terwilliger.
He had made his home with Judith Baumgratz for many years. She preceded him in death in 1997.
He was Methodist by faith and enjoyed hunting, camping and especially fishing as well as spending time with his family.
He had been employed at Stackpole Carbon as a die setter. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War.
Florence L. Steis, 88, of Miamisburg, Ohio, died Friday, March 4, 2011 at her residence under the care of Hospice of Dayton.
She was born Sept. 12, 1922 in Brandy Camp, the daughter of Gelindo and Julia Castina Benigni.
She was a former resident of Brandy Camp and Coraopolis.

CLARION - The Lady Dutch of St. Marys Area High School went scoreless in the third period of their District 9-AAA Championship game with Bradford, but then rallied for a 23-8 advantage in the final period to defeat the Lady Owls by a 53-37 score for their fourth straight District 9-AAA championship at Clarion University on Saturday afternoon.
CLARION - The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch basketball team captured the 2010-11 District 9 Class AAA basketball championship Saturday with a 49-37 victory over the Bradford Owls in a game played at the Waldo Tippin Gymnasium at Clarion University.
CLARION - The Elk County Catholic Crusaders used an 11-0 third-quarter run to defeat the Union Knights by a 51-39 score in the District 9 Class A championship game played at Waldo Tippin Gymnasium at Clarion University Saturday night.
The first half of Saturday’s title game was an extremely low-scoring affair. Elk led 3-2 after the first eight minutes of play and 11-9 at the half.
The third period was the difference in the contest, as the Crusaders outscored the Knights 24-14 to open a 12-point lead, 35-23, with eight minutes remaining.
CLARION - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders earned the District 9-A third spot in the PIAA playoffs on Saturday as they defeated the Clarion Lady Bobcats by a 42-34 score in the 9-A consolation game at Clarion University.
Elk County Catholic's defensive effort can be attributed to the victory, as they held the Clarion girls to just 34 points. Elk's offense once again struggled as they shot a very poor percentage from the field at 10 of 58 (a little over 17 percent).
The St. Marys Area gymnastics team competed at the PA Classic Gymnastics Team Championship Friday and Saturday. The event was held at Chambersburg.
The Dutch squad placed second in the bronze division with 125.576 points. Altoona won the division with a total of 128.183 points, followed by St. Marys, Hanover 115.817 and DuBois 115.659.
The St. Marys squad was bumped to the bronze division and was seeded first in this division.
“Although we ended up being down a team member, the team did a nice job trying to keep up the momentum,” said St. Marys coach Irene McCandless.
Ronald Jones Stewart, 94, of Main Street, Brockway, died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at his residence.
Born on May 29, 1916, in Brockway, he was the son of the late William A. Stewart, Jr. and Mary I. (Jones) Stewart.
He was a veteran of the both the United States Army and the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He was retired from the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He is survived by a sister, Alberta Watters of York.
He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous siblings.
Dennis P. Galmish, 60, of 124 Skyline Dr., Kersey, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born in St. Marys on Aug. 28, 1950, son of the late William and Margaret Prechtel Galmish. On June 25, 1970, in the St. Boniface Church, he married Linda Geyer, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1968. He was employed by Keystone Powdered Metal Co.
Evelyn L. Chaumpi, 71, of 579 Maurus St., St. Marys, died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 17, 1939 in Elizabeth, N.J., daughter of the late Charles Lovey and Evelyn Schumer Lovey Perrotty, who survives, of Linden, N.J.
She had resided in St. Marys since 1974 and had lived in North Carolina for a few years. She was a graduate of Battin High School in Elizabeth, N.J. and was the retired secretary for the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce.
She enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with her family.
