RIDGWAY â€“ The Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous seminar Wednesday morning featured Scott Dow who holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drawing.
He has been doing chainsaw carving for six yearsÂ which he picked up when his wife Jennifer said it was something she thought he could do. Dow is now a full-time chainsaw carver
Robert J. Hupfer, 85, of 128 Averyville Rd., St. Marys, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 25, 2015 at the Pinecrest Manor following a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 4, 1929 in St. Marys, son of the late John and Gertrude Feldbauer Hupfer. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1947. He was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company, retiring in 1991 after 43 years of service as a first class tool and die maker.
On Aug. 8, 1959 in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Fidelis Goodreau, who survives.
John J. "Jack" Struble Sr., 80, a resident of Sena-Kean Manor in Smethport, and formerly of St. Marys and Smethport, died on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015 at Sena-Kean Manor following a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 29, 1934, a son of the late William and Viola Valentine Struble.
He married Lois Hollamby Struble in June of 1966, she preceded him in death Feb. 25, 1999.Â He then married Nancy Beyer Struble, who survives.

An Emporium man found asleep in a Kay Fork Road cabin faces multiple misdemeanor charges of possession of controlled substances, possession of marijuana and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Shane Richard Lyon, 44, was found sleeping in a bed in a camp by patrolmen Smith and Marconi of the St. Marys Police Department.
RIDGWAY â€“ The Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous had Jason Stoner of Fairfield present a seminar Tuesday at the American Legion along Main Street.
Jason Stoner began carving 10 years ago after receiving a chainsaw as a gift and seeing works done by Duane Bender. Firewood soon became artwork. Stoner began full-time carving four years ago.
KANE â€“ As expected, Seneca Resources has filed a federal lawsuit against Highland Township for its attempt to block a federally-approved injection well for the disposal of drilling waste fluids.
In a suit filed in U.S. District Court, Seneca is seeking action to "temporarily and permanently" ban the township and its Board of Supervisors from enforcing an ordinance adopted two years ago.
The ordinance, crafted under the guidance of the Community Environmental Defense Fund (CELDF), bans underground injection control (UIC) wells used for the disposal of natural gas brines.
RIDGWAY â€“ Damian Tristan Annis, 24, of St. Marys was sentenced to nine to 24 months of incarceration and five years of probation after pleading guilty in several cases Monday at Elk County Court.
Annis pleaded guilty to three felony counts of burglary, one misdemeanor count of theft from a motor vehicle, one misdemeanor count of loitering and prowling at night time and two misdemeanor counts of theft by deception
The St. Marys Area High School gymnastics team finished as the runner-up in the Bronze division at the Pa. Classic Gymnastics Championships over the weekend, ending up just over five points behind Chambersburg in the battle for the title. Chambersburg had a team score of 133.241, while St. Marys earned a 127.809. Placing third was Bellefonte with a score of 125.759 while DuBois Area was fourth with a score of 116.758.
