Elk County Conservation District chairman Les Haas announced his resignation during last night's meeting.
The new chairman for the Elk Conservation District will be appointed at this morning's Elk County Commissioner's meeting at 10 a.m.
"I have learned that the commissioners can appoint someone to fill my position, so that will take place tomorrow [Tuesday] at the County Commissioner's meeting," said chairman Les Haas.

St. Marys resident Elizabeth Friedl recently addressed members of city council about a number of concerns involving city issues, including what responsibility the city has to subscribers of the Zito Media television service.
Mark Jacob, city solicitor, explained to Friedl that the city has a franchise agreement with Zito Media for the television service.
"Basically [Zito Media] pays the city for use of the lines within the right-of-ways of the city," Jacob said.
Marjorie A. Wilson, 84, of 185 Center St., Elk Towers, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Valerie Eckl of 520 Hall Ave., following a brief illness.
She was born April 19, 1926 in Byrnedale, daughter of the late Frank and Beatrice Williams Luzier. On September 5, 1946, in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, she married John O. "Jack" Wilson. He preceded her in death in 1987.
Wilfred J. "Willie" Fritz, 96, of 74 Erie Ave., St. Marys, died on Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010 at his home.
He was born July 26, 1914 in St. Marys, a son of the late William and Clara Meyer Fritz. He was married to Magdaline "Mae" Trunzo, who preceded him in death on May 31, 1992.
On Nov. 10, 1995 in St. Tobias Church in Brockway, he married Theresa Markley Fritz, who survives.
Vicki F. Caruso, age 90, of River Road, Weedville, died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010 at home.
She was born Jan. 28, 1920 in Caledonia, daughter of the late Modesto and Rose (Manganelli) Bartoletti. On June 4, 1949, she married Albert L. Caruso, who preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 2007.
Mona C. Assalone, 80, of Melio Lane, Weedville died Saturday, December 25, 2010 at Pinecrest Manor following a short illness.
She was born August 23, 1930 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Anson and Ethel (Allen) Harlan.
She married Albert Assalone Sr. on April 30, 1949. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1987.
She lived all her life in St. Marys and Bennetts Valley. She was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church in St. Marys and also attended Weedville Wesleyan Church.
She enjoyed babysitting for family and friends, and especially taking a Sunday drive in the car.
Donations for the Coaches vs. Cancer program will once again be collected during the annual varsity basketball Elk County Holiday Tournament, which is scheduled to be held this year on Wednesday, Dec. 29 and Thursday, Dec. 30 at St. Marys Area High School. The tournament is held between the varsity girls' and boys' basketball teams from St. Marys Area High School, Elk County Catholic High School, Johnsonburg Area High School and Ridgway Area High School.
Students at St. Marys Catholic Middle School succeeded in raising an amount above their anticipated goal during their unique fundraiser to purchase farm animals for needy families.
During their recent two-week long fundraiser as part of the Heifer International Project, students donated leftover change in cans located throughout the school. They could also contribute by paying $1 to participate in a dress-down day. There were also several donations from the community.
"People were really generous," said Student Council President Madison Stoltz. "We were surprised at the final amount."
Jerome V. Wickett, 80, of Austin, and formerly of St. Marys, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 13, 1930 in St. Marys, a son of the late Leonard and Mary Kerchinski Wickett. He was married to Bertha Brennen Wickett, who survives.
Mr. Wickett attended St. Marys schools and was a member of Queen of the World Church.
Willis Wilbur Smith, 83, of Gardner Hill Road, Weedville, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 at Elk Regional Health Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 22, 1927 on Gardner Hill in Weedville, the son of the late Willard R. and Esther I. Smith. On March 2, 1957, he married Alta Byerly, who survives.
