DRMC's St. Marys building set to open March 12

DuBois Regional's St. Marys Community Medical Building will open officially on Monday, March 12. The 30,000 square-foot building, located in front of the Walmart on the Million Dollar Highway in Fox Township, will house a number of diagnostic services, including laboratory, diagnostic imaging, digital X-ray, ultrasound, breast care and digital mammography, bone density and electrocardiograms (EKGs), as well as several specialists and family and women's health practices.

Innovated Solutions to showcase software, 3D printing

ST. MARYS - Innovated Solutions, formerly Arete IRC, does just what its name says - provides solutions for companies in the form of software and 3D rapid prototyping.
Located in the Franklin Center in downtown St. Marys, the company employs a small staff of five employees, including Eric Wonderling, president; John Azzato III, vice president of operations and sales; Jim Wolf, business manager and sales; and Jake Shannon, senior application engineer.
As co-owners, Wonderling and Azzato have been with the business since it was created just over two years ago.

Glenn T. Bauer

Glenn T. Bauer, 44, of 980 Windfall Rd., St. Marys, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 4, 2012 at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 14, 1968 in St. Marys, the son of Thomas A. and Joanne L. Catalone Bauer of Kersey, who survive. On Oct. 12, 1996 in the St. Leo’s Church in Ridgway, he married Connie S. Hammer, who survives.

Lady Dutch fall to Bradford 58-39 in 9-AAA title game

SMA plays South Fayette Tuesday
CLARION - The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch lost to the Bradford Lady Owls by a 58-39 score Saturday afternoon in the District 9-AAA championship game played at Clarion University.
The Lady Dutch were outscored by a 15-2 margin in the first eight minutes of play. The Lady Dutch outscored the Lady Owls 29-26 in the second and third periods but Bradford scored 17 to St. Marys’ eight points in the fourth quarter.

Lady Crusaders win 9-A consolation over Kane 47-25

CLARION - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders won the District 9-A consolation game Saturday by defeating the Kane Lady Wolves by a 47-25 score.
The Lady Crusaders will now take on Southern Fulton, the District 5 champion, on Saturday at a time and site to be announced. Kane will take on Vincentian, the District 7 champion, also on Saturday at a site and time to be announced.

Crusaders fight off Lions 77-66 in D9 consolation contest

CLARION - The Elk County Catholic Crusaders put in a strong performance on Saturday afternoon in the District 9 boys’ Class A consolation game at Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium, going up by 17 at one point early in the fourth quarter before fending off a late rally by Clarion-Limestone to come away with a 77-66 victory.

Shannon E. Chubon of Atlanta, Ga. formerly of Lock Haven, PA died unexpectedly at her home on March 1, 2012.   
She was born January 12, 1985 in Lock Haven, the daughter of Frank L. and Mary Beth (Mosebarger) Chubon.

No Child Left Behind waiver program introduced

As of 2014, 100 percent of public school students are required to attain proficiency in math and reading as demonstrated in standardized testing like that of the Pennsylvania School System Assessment exams (PSSAs). This originated with a provision contained in the federal No Child Left Behind legislation, signed into law in 2002. Since its inception, education officials nationwide have continuously voiced opposition to NCLB and derided the 100 percent proficiency marker as merely aspirational and entirely improbable.
