John G. "Jack" Meyer

John G. "Jack" Meyer, 80, of 120 Lecker Rd., St. Marys, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010 at his home.
He was born Nov. 29, 1930 in Dagus Mines, son of the late George and Helen Wildnauer Meyer Jr. On Feb. 23, 1952 in Rhode Island, he married the late Yvonne C. Fields Meyer, who preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 1999.

Rachael M. Geer

Rachael M. Geer, 89, of 118 Teaberry Rd., St. Marys, and recently a resident at Elk Haven Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010 at the nursing home following a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 19, 1921 in Portland Mills, a daughter of the late Robert and Cora Unvendorvin Beck.
On Oct. 27, 1945 in the First United Methodist Church in St. Marys, she married the late Charles F. Geer.
Mrs. Geer gradutaed from SMAHS, Class of 1939. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in St. Marys and had been employed at Kemper's Pharmacy in Johnsonburg for more than 15 years.

Ailene S. Trentini, 74, of Pine Ave., Force, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010 at her residence following a short illness.
She was born Feb. 1, 1936, in Gardner Hill, daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Breski Trentini.

Veronica H. Schneider

Veronica H. Schneider, 70, of 1245 Million Dollar Highway, Kersey, died early Friday morning, Dec. 17, 2010, at her residence after a brief illness.
She was born July 29, 1940 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Louis J. and Catherine E. Keller Hoffman.
On Sept. 1, 1962 in the St. Mary’s Church, she married Theodore M. (Ted) Schneider, who survives.

Blake E. Knapp

Blake E. Knapp, 69, of Darrah Street, Brookville, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born Jan. 28, 1941 in Cooksburg, son of the late Meade Knapp and Elva Sharp Knapp. He was engaged to be married to Boots Ovenshire.

Patricia A. Wilson

Patricia A. Wilson, 66, of 2116 Legion Rd., Clearfield, and a former St. Marys resident, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md.
She was born April 9, 1944, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Joseph M. and Ann Frank Donahue. On April 11, 1964, in the Sacred Heart Church, she married Robert B. Wilson, who preceded her in death in 1996.
She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1962. She was the owner of Med-Bill Company in Clearfield.

DRMC opening medical building in St. Marys

Patients in Elk, Cameron and McKean counties who often travel to DuBois Regional Medical Center for certain healthcare services will now have a more convenient option with the opening of the St. Marys Community Medical Building. Recently, DRMC formally announced that it will construct a 22,500 square-foot medical facility between CNB Bank and Wal-Mart on the Million Dollar Highway in Fox Township.

Dutchmen defeat Clarion 54-39 to improve to 4-0

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch basketball team raised their record to 4-0 on the year with a 54-39 victory over the Clarion Bobcats last night at Clarion Area High School.
St. Marys used a strong first half, as they were able to build a 27-13 lead at the half. They outscored their hosts 27-26 in the second half to win the game.
“It was a good game for us. We built an early lead, then Clarion closed it a little bit in the third quarter but we were able to penetrate their zone press,” said St. Marys coach Mark Guido.

Elk Catholic Crusaders top Kane Wolves 76-35

The Elk Catholic Crusaders picked up their second win of the young season on Friday night at the Aaron J. Straub Gym on the Elk Catholic campus as they defeated the Kane Area High Wolves by a 76-35 score in an AML encounter.
The Crusaders took charge of the game early on and were in command the entire contest.
"I'm pleased with the win tonight, as we shot a little better than in our previous ball games," noted Coach Aaron Straub of the Crusaders. "Defensively we played pretty good ball tonight and I was pleased with the way we were able to draw the charging fouls."

Lady Dutch down Coudersport 73-55 in tourney opener

St. Marys takes on Keystone tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team advanced to the finals of the Keystone Tournament with a 73-55 victory over the Coudersport Lady Falcons Friday night.
St. Marys will meet Keystone tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the championship game. Keystone defeated DuBois Central by a 66-38 score. Coudersport and DuBois Central will meet tonight at 6 p.m. in the consolation game.
“Tonight was a nice team effort. I liked the balanced scoring and defensive play,” said St. Marys Coach Bob Swanson.
