Earlier this week, members of city council gave their approval to tentative projects for the city's 2011 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.
Community and Economic Development Coordinator Tina Gradizzi explained to council that two projects presented at the first public hearing earlier this month qualify for the funding. These projects entail administration costs and street and road improvements within the city.
This holiday season the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Christmas ornament features the Elk Country Visitors Center.
"We felt it was appropriate to feature the visitors center, as it has been a huge attraction to our area," said Sally Wilson, Chamber executive director.
As part of the 25th anniversary of the Christmas ornament program, the Chamber is offering two different designs.
The first design is an ivory ornament with a color photo of the visitors center with "Elk Country Visitor Center" written in ivory script.
The refurbishment of the St. Leo Catholic Church began earlier this month and is off to a good start, according to Father Brian Vossler.
“The progress for our refurbishing has gone very well so far,” Vossler said. “At first, we got off to a slow start because we were waiting for a company from North Carolina to come and pick up our pews. They were delayed by about a week and a half, but we did some planning and did some work out in the gathering space so it wasn't completely wasted time, and once we got all of the contractors on board it's been going very smoothly.”
