A moment of silence was observed for former St. Marys Mayor Jim Auman at the beginning of the most recent City Council meeting.
Councilman Dick Dornisch also paid tribute to Auman, who died earlier this month.
"He was memorable in many different ways as a St. Marys citizen. In a way it was a fall of giants," Dornisch said.
He recalled meeting with Auman in 1962 about the possibility of Auman running for mayor.
ST. MARYS – Kevin O’Leary and business partner Rick Emmert have launched a new service to help area residents tackle just about any task at an affordable price.
Errands-B-Gone was established in October to offer people help with errands and tasks, from pet-sitting to painting a room.
“We provide a wide variety of services, anywhere from running an errand to writing resumes and taking cars for service or taking customers to doctors’ appointments, hairdressers’ appointments,” O’Leary said. “What we do is just about every service that’s out there.”
The Elk County charitable organization “Women Who Care” (WWC) is holding a membership drive. Women Who Care was established in 2009 with nine charter members who had the idea of establishing a philanthropic giving circle. Charter member Paula Fritz Eddy describes the organization as a “giving circle that was established to provide a vehicle for nonprofit organizations to apply for funds to strengthen the quality of life for families in our local community.”

MARYS – Women Who Care, a charitable organization comprised of Elk County women who use philanthropic giving to strengthen the quality of life for families in area communities, presented grants to several area organizations at its Annual Membership and Grant Awarding Dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
ST. MARYS - Members of the St. Marys Chamber of Commerce, along with personnel from Advanced Auto Parts, were on hand Saturday morning for the grand opening of the company at its location at 900 South St. Marys St.
Advanced Auto Parts District Manager David Sinisi said that with a number of auto parts stores already in the vicinity, Advanced Auto Parts plans to distinguish itself from the others through the quality and level of the services it offers.
"We are going to out-service our competition," Sinisi said.
Plans are in the works for the 13th Annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous to be held in downtown Ridgway after the Ridgway Borough Council unanimously approved the proposal during their regular meeting.
Main Street manager Michelle Bogacki said, pending PennDOT approval, Main Street will be closed from Feb. 18-25 from Broad to Mill Streets to make room for the popular event.
"It's a win-win," Bogacki said. "The site never goes away and we can work with the retailers."
