November 7th
In addressing unfinished business matters, the Fox Township supervisors discussed the request from Jay Township to form a partnership in sharing a Code Enforcement Officer and Sewage Enforcement Officer. Jay supervisors noted they have three other proposals to review, but were awaiting Fox Twp.'s response.
The supervisors agreed to inform the Jay Twp. supervisors that they are not interested in the partnership at this time, but may revisit the topic in the future.
November 6th
As of Jan. 1, 2012, legislation signed into law by Gov. Tom Corbett requiring unemployment compensation (UC) claimants to register with CareerLink to verify they are actively searching for work via the PA CareerLink system in order to continue receiving benefits will take effect. With the law's enactment, Pennsylvania will be the last state in the nation to adopt the work search stipulation.
ST. MARYS - Due to popular demand from area residents, Elk Regional Health System’s “Keepsake Program†is offering angel Christmas tree ornaments for purchase by area residents.
Through the program, several ornaments at different price points are offered for purchase in memory of a loved one. The ornaments are displayed on trees in the lobbies of Elk Regional Health Center (ERHC) and Pinecrest Manor and may be taken home afterward.

In an effort to prevent further thefts of road signs, Fox Township chose to install surveillance cameras at various intersections throughout the township.
The tactic has worked, as five people are currently awaiting their preliminary hearings, all of whom were caught stealing signs on July 15, 2011. The group includes a mixture of three adults and two juveniles.
"From January 1, 2011 to July 1, 2011, we had just under $2,200 worth of signs stolen," said Fox Twp. Supervisor and Public Works Director Randy Gradizzi.
A grassroots movement is taking place in Elk County and beyond. No, the campaign has nothing to do with occupying Wall Street, but rather aims to "bring the cow home." The cow being referred to is a 15-foot tall, fiberglass cow that stood for many years in front of the Ayrshire Dairy on the Old Kersey Road in Kersey. The cow, now in Reedsville, Pa., became a local landmark and roadside attraction. It was commonly used as a photo op for families and tourists who posed for pictures with it when visiting the dairy.
November 3rd
The Fox Township Supervisors addressed a variety of new and old business items during their Wednesday evening meeting.
Among items approved were the installation of a streetlight, the purchase of a new township sign, correspondence items and payment of bills totaling $244,361,63.
Resident Jim Chorney's request was approved to have a streetlight installed near 163 Skyline Drive. The request comes as he explained to the supervisors that a bus driver has expressed concern that it is very dark in the area, making it difficult to see the two young girls who board the bus.
The St. Marys Recreation Board honored Denny Posteraro, recently retired recreation director, for 46 years of service to the city's recreation program during their meeting on Wednesday evening at St. Marys City Hall.
Devin Brock, rec board member, presented Posteraro with a citation from the city, as well as a plaque from the recreation board. Rec board members also had cake and ice cream in honor of Posteraro, and had a number of scrapbooks on display that he made over the years to showcase the coverage of park activities.
In an effort to expand their outdoor offerings to women, TomBob Outdoors LLC of Ridgway has recently introduced scented earrings constructed from their patented metal fishing lures.
The TomBob Fishing Lure Earring Collection features a controlled-release Scent Fusion Metal, the trademarked creation from Continuous Metal Technology (CMT) of Ridgway, the parent company of TomBob. Available scents include pina colada, mandarin cranberry, baker's vanilla and cotton blossom.
November 2nd
In an effort to educate the public about end-of-life options, Community Nurses, Inc. is sponsoring "Preparing for a Graceful Journey," a free event open to the public that will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 6-8 p.m. in the small conference room at The Red Fern in St. Marys.
On Wednesday evening the Fox Township Supervisors approved to advertise the proposed 2012 budget, which has no tax increase and totals $2.39 million in expenses from all funds.
The budget is available for review on the township's website at www.foxtownship.com within the next week. Hard copies are also available at the township office.
The budget's general fund balances with $1,293,808 in income and expenses.
