Area parishes participate in Catholics Come Home program

Area residents by now may have noticed the advertisements airing on television encouraging inactive Catholics to return to the church through the Catholics Come Home program. The city's three parishes, Queen of the World, Sacred Heart and St. Mary's, are all participating in the initiative throughout Lent.
According to Fr. Michael Ferrick, pastor of Queen of the World Parish, the commercials first began running on Ash Wednesday and will continue until Easter.

Former C/G owner establishes scholarship for SMASD students

A new scholarship is available to students of the St. Marys Area School District. Five students will each receive a $5,000 scholarship per year for the four years they successfully remain enrolled in a college or university. A total of $100,000 will be distributed.
The generous scholarship was established by Nathan Milikowsky, former owner of C/G Electrodes, which he sold in 2010 and is now known as GrafTech International.

Ridgway man selected as Logger of the Year; Kersey man named finalist

JOHNSONBURG – Tim Cowan of Ridgway has been named as the Logger of the Year by the Kane-based Allegheny Hardwood Utilization Group (AHUG).
Cowan was honored Tuesday evening at the 43rd annual Kane Area Loggers Safety Meeting at the Johnsonburg Fire Hall.
AHUG said it presents the award annually to the logger who "best exemplifies the qualities of professionalism" and has "a strong commitment to safety and has community and industry service involvement."
