A significant crowd was on hand Wednesday morning as St. Marys' newest retailer, Shoe Sensation, opened its doors to eager customers.
In celebrating the grand opening, several store employees and corporate personnel were on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Numerous representatives from the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed store personnel to the area and hosted the ceremony.
Elk County's planning department recently received a grant totaling $138,000 from the state Department of Community and Economic Development [DCED] for home accessibility modifications.
Earlier this week, members of city council gave their unanimous approval to Ordinance 265 regarding refinancing the city's 2006 bond issue. Tom Lynch, the city's bond counsel, was present at the meeting and explained that General Obligation Bonds in the amount of $4,870,000 will be issued for a funding program to re-fund a series of General Obligation Notes already held by the city.
The St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors approved several personnel issues at this monthâ€™s regular meeting.
All employment recommendations are provisional for 30 days pending receipt of Act 151 and Act 34 clearance documentation and pre-employment drug testing if applicable.
The board approved the elimination of one elementary school librarian position, effective at the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
