Dave Berteri, a member of the tax collection committee for Elk County, addressed the Jay Township Supervisors at their recent meeting to inform them of upcoming changes to how earned income tax is collected within the county.
Addressing meeting attendees, Berteri remarked that many were already likely aware of the change.
"Most of you probably know the government has passed an ordinance that every county has to have one tax collector for the wage tax," Berteri said. "They're forcing [the counties] to do it."
The St. Marys Senior Center is hosting a "Picnic on the Porch" event on Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. in celebration of Older Americans Month.
This free event is open to the public and will include picnic foods, prizes and music by Hap and the Gang.Â
Current St. Marys Senior Center members who bring in three new members are eligible for a bonus prize.
"The center is full of active people. It is a fun and friendly atmosphere," emphasized Lesa Lamb, senior center director.
She noted that new members who join only have to pay $6 for half-year dues.Â
