The 2011 Elk County Fair kicked off Wednesday evening with the Opening Ceremonies, which were attended by State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Elk/Clearfield), the Elk County Commissioners, various township supervisors and fair board personnel and volunteers.

Elk County Prison Board members are looking for an area nursing agency to replace Helpmates Hospice in Ridgway,
"We haven't really utilized them and we felt that they would not be able to keep up with the changes that we've made to the Elk County prison system," said Elk County Prison Warden Gregory J. Gebauer. "I will go out into the community and check with some of the other nursing agencies to see if we can get them on here as a backup provider."
Following an expansion project that took almost two years and cost more than $500,000, CAMCO Diversified, Inc., in St. Marys is offering a new service with the addition of two new large-batch steam treaters.
At a recent Fox Township Supervisors meeting, bids were reviewed for fencing at Fox Township Community Park. The winning bid was submitted by Kessler Fencing in DuBois at a cost of $12,395.51.
The second bid was submitted by C&H Fencing of Worthville for $12,680. The supervisors approved the lowest bid pending approval of the township's park director, Deb Agosti.
