November 28th
Plans are in the works for the 13th Annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous to be held in downtown Ridgway after the Ridgway Borough Council unanimously approved the proposal during their regular meeting.
Main Street manager Michelle Bogacki said, pending PennDOT approval, Main Street will be closed from Feb. 18-25 from Broad to Mill Streets to make room for the popular event.
"It's a win-win," Bogacki said. "The site never goes away and we can work with the retailers."

RIDGWAY - At Tuesday's meeting of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, the authority continued to take steps in preparing its bid for a can densifier to be used at the Elk County Community Recycling Center at the Stackpole Complex in St. Marys.
Enforcement officer Dave Stubber said he worked on the bid document and it was reviewed by the authority's solicitor, who recommended a few changes in the wording. After the revisions are made and the document is approved, it will be sent out to businesses.
As area rifle hunters take to the woods today in an attempt to bag a trophy buck, Pennsylvania Game Commission Wildlife Conservation Officer Doty McDowell indicated that their odds might be a bit better than normal this year due to bucks continuing to exhibit some rutting behavior.
"Most of the bucks that I'm seeing that I'm basing this information off of, I'm seeing in the middle of the day," McDowell said. "They're just up marking territories, searching out does, and I think the fact that it's happening in the rifle season could actually be a good thing for hunters."
The Elk County Concert Choir has been practicing for weeks for the holiday season’s upcoming performances. This year’s showings are entitled the "Tapestry of Light: a Celtic Christmas Celebration." The shows are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Leo Magnus Catholic Church in Ridgway and Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Marys. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.

A local father's three year-campaign of searching for answers and seeking justice in the death of his daughter led him Friday to the steps of the Elk County Courthouse in Ridgway, where he spoke before news cameras and a group of concerned community members who gathered to show support for his cause.
A special ceremony was held in the Elk County Courthouse Courtroom Wednesday afternoon to swear in attorney Brittany A. Roof to the bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Elk County President Judge Richard A. Masson, district attorney Bradley Kraus, Roof's family members and other members of the bar were on hand to witness Roof's admission.

With the holiday season upon us, the St. Marys Lions Club is hoping to take the opportunity to show their appreciation for the community's support throughout the year by holding a "Breakfast with Santa" on Dec. 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Gunner's Restaurant in St. Marys.
The City of St. Marys plans to fight petitions from Metaldyne Sinterforged Products, LLC, which has filed appeals on its property tax assessments located in St. Marys and Ridgway.
City Manager Dave Greene said the city is joining with the St. Marys Area School District and Elk County in fighting the petitions, which were filed with the Elk County Assessment Office, with a hearing on the issue scheduled with Judge Masson at a future date. The appeals apply to all taxes for 2012 and thereafter.
For a number of area residents when it comes to Thanksgiving traditions, participating in the Schlimm family's annual Turkey Trot, a 5K walk/run to raise money for prostate cancer research, is becoming as normal as sitting down for a turkey dinner and enjoying an afternoon with family and friends.

RIDGWAY - At Tuesday's joint meeting of the Elk County Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) and the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, consultant Michelle Nestor provided attendees with a draft of the Elk County solid waste management plan for review. The 10-year, comprehensive plan contains a number of recommendations and suggestions for the authority that could help it maintain current cost-effective services, expand services and increase revenue.
