ST. MARYS - "We continue to be above state averages, which is very good," said St. Marys Area School District Superintendent Ann Kearney in reviewing the district's report card for the 2011-- 2012 school year during Thursday's workshop meeting of the district's board of directors.
The report, issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), includes findings based on the district's attendance and graduation rates and performance on state assessment tests, namely the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA), as well as other criteria.
A Kersey resident recently received the most overall votes in the Pennsylvania Parks and Forest Foundationâ€™s â€śTake Five in the Outdoorsâ€ť photo contest.
Tom Dorsey of Kersey won the "People's Choice Best in Show" award for his photo of a doe and fawn standing in the water at Oil Creek State Park in Venango County.
â€śThe light and background was absolutely perfect. I captured at least 25 images as the fawn held different poses as if modeling for my camera,â€ť Dorsey said. â€śJust seeing this beautiful scene was lucky enough, but to photograph it was over the top.â€ť
The Fox Township supervisors have scheduled their annual budget workshops for Oct. 22, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m. The adoption of the proposed budget is set for Nov. 7, with the final budget being adopted on Dec. 5, 2012.
Under new business the Fox Township supervisors approved the use of the township backhoe and service truck to conduct repairs at the Fox Twp. Sportsmen's Club shooting range, as well as using a boom mower to mow the hillside.
Live television coverage of the ordination of Bishop Lawrence Thomas Persico revealed a humanity that is already endearing him to the northwest Pennsylvania flock he will now shepherd.Â It was all part of a joyous day on which the 10th man in the 159-year history of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie became its new bishop.
