St. Marys City Council has unanimously approved amending the non-uniformed pension plan, updating it for recent changes mandated by the Internal Revenue Service code.
The policy states if non-uniformed city employees are serving in the military on active duty, their pension will be turned over to their spouse in the event of their death. In addition, any raises that would have occurred in the timespan they were serving would go toward the plan's beneficiary.
ST. MARYS - With a long-unused portion of the Bennetts Valley Elementary School building in a state of disrepair, the SMASD Board of Directors, in deeming it too expensive to salvage the section, have recommended its demolition.
The demolition discussion concerns what SMASD Superintendent Ann Kearney referred to as the "old half" of the Bennetts Valley Elementary School, which she said has sat unused for the past four years.
