October 19th

ID requested, not required, in General Election

October 20, 2012

Voters will be asked, but not required, to show an acceptable photo ID on Election Day.  All photo IDs must contain an expiration date that is current, unless noted otherwise. Voter's names on their photo IDs do not need to exactly match their voter registration, but the names must substantially conform.  Acceptable IDs include:
• Photo IDs issued by the U.S. Federal Government or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (including the Department of State Voter ID Card)
• PA Driver’s License or Non-driver’s License photo ID (IDs are valid for voting purposes 12 months past expiration date)

Corbett signs law helping Pa. fire and emergency companies

HARRISBURG – Governor Tom Corbett on Thursday ceremonially signed the Firefighter Grant Program law, also known as Senate Bill 866, providing grant money for Pennsylvania’s fire, ambulance and emergency companies.

Two Elk County bridges on Route 949 set to open Friday

RIDGWAY – With deck replacement work complete, PennDOT plans to fully open two Elk County bridges on Friday, Oct. 19. Making the repairs will keep the bridges in service for years to come. Both bridges are located on Route 949 near Portland Mills. The bridges are about 500 feet apart, with one spanning Toby Creek and one spanning the railroad. Traffic has been controlled at the bridges by temporary signals. Once both lanes are opened on the bridges, PennDOT will turn the signals off and remove them.

American Red Cross urges residents to send Season’s Greetings to Military heroes

“Holiday Mail for Heroes” mailbox open through December 7

DUBOIS - Although many people spend the holiday season in the company of close relatives and friends, many of the nation’s heroes can not do the same. While military deployments and hospital stays may keep many service men and women away from their loved ones this season, the American Red Cross is doing its part to keep their holiday spirits high. The Red Cross will collect and distribute holiday cards that send words of encouragement, joy and cheer.

Adjustments to income tax withholding can impact payday, tax day

COLUMBUS, Ohio —The passing of the 2012 federal tax filing extension deadline at midnight tonight means that now is a good time to start looking ahead to the 2013 tax filing season.  Many working taxpayers may benefit from a review of their federal income tax withholding rate, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

Portion of SR255 between St. Marys and Penfield closed due to crash

Penfield – PennDOT advises drivers that Route 255 in Clearfield County is closed between Penfield and St. Marys, due to a crash with downed utilities. Northbound and southbound traffic is being detoured. Local traffic is allowed through the closed section.
Motorists are advised to follow signed detours. Emergency personnel are on site to direct motorists as necessary. PennDOT advises drivers to allow for extra travel time and remain alert and patient as they move through the area.
PennDOT expects to re-open the roadway by 7 p.m. today.

Toby Water customers encouraged to conserve

Toby Water customers are asked to conserve water until further notice.  The recent rains have not been sufficient to raise the water levels in the reservoir.  Customers are asked to avoid unnecessary uses of water such as washing cars, etc.  Customers may direct any questions to the Fox Township Municipal building.
