October 15th
HARRISBURG –Marcellus Shale impact fee revenue that has been collected by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has been transmitted to the Pennsylvania Treasury Department for distribution and payments to local governments, according to state Senator Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson).
October 14th
The St. Marys Area Water Authority is notifying all of its customers that, due to the level of the Laurel Run Reservoir, our service area is now under a Drought Watch. The most recent rainfall amounts did not raise the level of the reservoir, which is currently at 10.5 feet below its overflow elevation and is continuing to drop at a rate of approximately .5 feet per week.
The Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is continuing to alert lake visitors about a blue-green algae bloom in Kinzua Dam/Allegheny Reservoir. The Corps was notified by the New York State Department of Health Aug. 30. Corps officials tested the effected water and determined that the bloom could be harmful to humans and pets should they come in contact with the algae.
The bloom was found in the New York State portion of the Allegheny Reservoir from Quaker Bay downstream to Willow Bay.

This season, when you see the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Marching Band, "The Legend" - under the direction of Dr. Martynuik, you will see three familiar faces and local graduates of Chapter XI schools/Allegheny Mountain Region.
This year's executive leader is Scott Shuttleworth (center), an IUP senior and graduate of St. Marys Area High School; Joe Boboige (left), an IUP junior and graduate of DuBois High School; and Cortney Foote (right), an IUP sophmore and graduate of Elk County Catholic High School. All three students are music education majors.

The Crystal Fire Department held an open house on Thursday evening at their main station on Erie Avenue. The event was held in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week. From 6-9 p.m., children had the opportunity to participate in a kids' obstacle course and climb on and in all the apparatus. Coloring books and firefighter helmets were available to all those who attended. The ladder truck performed a demonstration which featured two firemen being raised up to the top of the outside of the building, where they changed one of the station's outdoor lightbulbs.
The City of St. Marys would like to announce the annual Leaf Collection Program will begin Monday, Oct. 22. The following is the tentative schedule of the leaf machine and which areas will be included:

HARRISBURG — Governor Tom Corbett today proclaimed Oct. 14-20 as Teen Driver Safety Week, noting two significant pieces of legislation that he signed into law in the past year aimed at increasing safety for teens.
Corbett’s proclamation coincides with the safety week’s national observance.
In the past year, Corbett signed Act 81, which enhanced teen driver safety by strengthening the graduated driver licensing law, and Act 84, which requires safety training for 16- and 17-year-olds seeking motorcycle licenses.
In observation of Fire Prevention Week, the Crystal Fire Department held an Open House at their main station on Erie Avenue on Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m. Firefighters were on hand as they hosted a children's obstacle course, showcased their several trucks and their uses and performed a demonstration on the ladder truck. The department's archives were on hand for public view as well.
St. Marys City Council will be holding its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, October 15, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Room of City Hall, 11 LaFayette St.

RIDGWAY - Representatives of the Williamsport-based Larson Design Group gave a presentation about their subsidiary company's treatment of water used in the gas and oil drilling industry to members of the Elk County Gas Task Force on Monday morning.
