Although war is not something many veterans recollect with fond memories, Leo Rigard, 96, of St. Marys, speaks highly of his group commander and fellow crew members during their World War II military service.
It was warm and sunny in St. Marys at 11 a.m. on Sunday as the annual Veterans Day Memorial Service got under way on the Diamond. The roughly half-hour-long ceremony was led by master of ceremonies, retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Vic Straub, who opened his remarks expressing that they were "blessed today to have such a beautiful day for this Veterans Day."
