Voters go to the polls

November 6, 2012

Business was brisk at the UE Local 502 union hall along SR 120 in St. Marys Tuesday afternoon as many voters were stopping by after work, including Kristen, shown above. However, a poll worker inside said turnout was not as high as expected and estimated that maybe a little more than half of that precinct's registered voters would come out to cast their ballot. Election Day in Elk County

November 6, 2012

It's been a sunny, yet cool, day in Elk County and the hope is that the nice weather will encourage more voters to travel to the polls for today's general election. The county only had a 20.52 percent voter turnout in the primary election in April, with 4,141 out of 20,179 registered voters casting ballots. While there are 10,714 registered Democrats in the county compared to 7,436 registered Republicans, in the April election only 19.40 percent of Democrats voted compared to 27.73 percent of Republicans.
