ST MARYS - A former employee of the Walmart Supercenter in Fox Township charged with stealing $20,000 from the store over a two-year period was in District Court Tuesday, where she waived her preliminary hearing on charges of theft by unlawful taking of moveable property, a third-degree felony.
RIDGWAY - A 12-member jury comprised of Elk County residents was selected Monday to serve in the upcoming trial of a Johnsonburg man on drug charges filed in the wake of a search warrant executed at his Second Avenue home in which police reportedly uncovered 638 marijuana plants growing inside.
Prior to the meeting a conditional use hearing was held for Tyrel Woelfel who plans to open a machine repair shop on S. Kersey Road. The supervisors unanimously approved Woelfel's request with no conditions.
Supervisor and Roadmaster Randy Gradizzi informed the supervisors of a new law set to take effect on Jan. 24, 2013 regarding electronic recycling. Known as "The Covered Device Recycling Act (CDRA)", Act 108 of 2010 basically states residents cannot dispose of electronic material in their trash with their municipal solid waste hauler, but must deliver it to an electronic recycling center.
When Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital first opened its doors in 1922, it is no surprise that the facility and its equipment looked considerably different than that found at the site today.
During a recent presentation on the history of the hospital, local historian Ray Beimel displayed several photographs that are believed to have been taken by St. Marys photographer Tom Ewing prior to the facility opening to the public.
