As February begins, typical winter weather conditions and a higher-than-normal amount of people with colds and other lingering illnesses have contributed to a shortage in the region's blood supply.
On Saturday morning WPSU visited the St. Marys Public Library to kick off the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, geared toward kindergarten through third grade students.
"It’s a national initiative designed to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning," said Bianca Barr, Penn State Outreach Marketing and Communications.
Penn State Public Broadcasting has partnered with WQED in Pittsburgh and West Virginia Public Broadcasting to offer this contest to children across Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
