Superintendent Ann Kearney presented the St. Marys Area School District's proposed budget for the 2012-2013 school year at Thursday's workshop meeting of the SMASD Board of Directors.
The budget, still tentative pending approval by the board, totals $24,339,949 and represents a 1.78 percent increase from last year's.
In detailing the proposal, Kearney discussed expected revenue and expenditures influencing the upcoming year's projections.
Helping kids with cancer was the goal of St. Marys Area Middle School students as they recently concluded their fundraising efforts during their "Pennies for Patients" collection, a program sponsored by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
During a special school assembly, members of the Student Council, overseen by advisor Miss Smith, presented a check in the amount of $1,897.37 to Megan Nemecek, campaign coordinator for the LLS School and Youth Programs Western PA/WV Chapter.
Over 80 area students and adults were confirmed as adult members of the Roman Catholic church on Sunday afternoon by the Most Reverend Donald W. Trautman, STD, SSL, Bishop of Erie; and the Right Reverend Douglas Nowicki, O.S.B., Archabbot of St. Vincent Archabbey, in a ceremony held at Queen of the World Church. The majority of the Confirmation candidates were members of Queen of the World, Sacred Heart, and St. Mary's parishes.
