Local trucking outfits feel the pinch of gas prices

With gas prices nearing or topping $4 per gallon across the country, the financial strain placed on individuals and small businesses alike is worsening. With the rising price of gasoline slowing the economic recovery of industries, the commercial transport industry has been among the hardest hit. Commercial transport companies are treading on uncertain ground as fuel prices threaten their bottom lines and squeeze their profit margins.

Northwest Savings Bank donates to St. Marys Public Library

As part of their celebration for the 10th anniversary of their office in downtown St. Marys, Northwest Savings Bank made a $500 donation to the St. Marys Public Library on Thursday morning to mark the occasion.
"We were trying to look over all of how we could benefit the community more as a whole, and we knew there were some projects going on at the library that needed some funding, such as the e-books," said Russ Daniels, assistant branch manager at Northwest Savings Bank's downtown St. Marys office.

Dance company earns top awards

From silver tap-dancing aliens to dancers perched atop a six-foot wall, such unique routines have consistently ranked among the judges' favorites during this year's competition season of the Dynamic Dance Competition Company, an 18-member troop from April School of Dance in St. Marys.
The group, overseen by artistic director Jennifer Blankenship of Kane, recently concluded their season, during which they brought home a myriad of top-place trophies.
