It became a busy afternoon in a short time for the Crystal Fire Department, which responded to back-to-back calls less than 10 minutes apart on Wednesday afternoon.
The first call came in at 4:39 p.m. for a brush fire above P/M National at 201 Grotzinger Rd., off of Rosely Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fairly large area of grassland on fire.
Federal road funding is set to expire this weekend and the monetary halt has caused considerable unrest amongst area planners.
WEEDVILLE - Hundreds of bidders turned up at the site of the former DeLullo's Shur Save Supermarket in Weedville on Wednesday for an equipment auction, as the store opened and closed its doors for the last time. The location is now the future site of a Family Dollar scheduled to open this summer.
Auctioneer Mark Barkley, with Barkley Auctions LLC, said the day was a success, adding that, "Everything was liquidated."
"We had 125 registered bidders . Most come in pairs, so you could easily count 250 people in attendance," Barkley said.
FOX TWP. - On Wednesday approximately 125 school board members, representatives from various youth agencies and numerous employers attended the first Summit to Connect Business and Industry with Education, hosted by the North Central Workforce Investment Board (WIB) Youth Council.
The summit, entitled "Preparing Our Youth for the 21st Century," featured three speakers and an interactive discussion panel that included residents from throughout North Central's coverage area of Elk, Cameron, Clearfield, Jefferson, McKean and Potter counties.
