From jewelry, food, makeup and accessories to kitchen products, candles, crafts and home decor the upcoming Lucky Ladies Day taking place on Saturday is featuring an array of area vendors showcasing their products.
The event, sponsored by Relay for Life's Team SMP which consists of staff of St. Marys Pharmacy and Home Medical, is taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the St. Boniface Elementary School cafeteria in Kersey. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
The Red Cross Blood Drive, held Wednesday at the Moose Club in St. Marys, saw over 60 individuals turn up to donate.
Pat Schwarzmueller, of Buffalo, a supervisor with the New York and Northwestern Pa. chapter of the Red Cross, said "everyone is our type" when asked what blood types the organization is looking for.
Elk County Catholic High School recently held its annual induction ceremony for the National Honor Society, this year welcoming 30 new members into the organization.
In addition to maintaining a certain grade point average, inductees also had to meet specific criteria related to leadership, service, and character.
Proposed cuts to higher education included in Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett's 2012-2013 budget proposal have precipitated a backlash, with student protests and academic administrators in Harrisburg clamoring for legislative allies in an effort to stem the flow of state dollars from their respective institutions.
ST. MARYS - Area youth can have a blast while helping to raise money to support cancer research and programs at the 2nd annual "Minute to Win It" challenge this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the CMF Club in St. Marys.
The event is sponsored by Elk County Relay for Life's Team F.R.I.E.N.D.S., and all proceeds benefit the 2012 Relay, which will be held at Fox Township Community Park this summer.

A resolution in support of "substantial charter school funding and accountability reform" was adopted by the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors at Monday's meeting, making official the board's position in calling for charter reform legislation "that relieves the financial burden on school districts created by charter schools."
At a recent St. Marys City Council meeting, Councilman Greg Gebauer inquired if there has been any further discussion on the St. Marys Area Water Authority's rate increase on fire hydrants.
Currently the city pays $165 per hydrant for 315 hydrants. This rate is set to increase to $202.50 next year.
The authority planned to add three new hydrants next year. If the authority approves the increase, this will provide a revenue increase of $11,647.
Several area residents have once again teamed up to raise money for The Brain Aneurysm Foundation. Not only is the second annual Bunny Hop 5K scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 7 at Benzinger Park in St. Marys, but Carly Frank is also competing in the Maurices Main Street Model Search. Any proceeds raised will benefit The Brain Aneurysm Foundation.

Monday's regular meeting of the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors saw the board revisit the subject of a resolution to include Ridgway Area School District (RASD) in an athletic co-operative between St. Marys High School and Elk County Catholic for the sports of swimming and diving.
The Elk County Footlighters will return to the stage this weekend with a dinner theatre production of “You Can’t Take it With You.”
The group will be performing at Aiello’s Café on North Broad Street in Ridgway on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 15 through March 17. A buffet dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m.
Footlighter member and play director Mike Ames said the comedic antics in the play will appeal to a broad audience.
