Mild weather contributes to East Branch's low water level

During Wednesday morning's East Branch Dam Safety Project stakeholders meeting, representatives from the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, discussed updates of the project to area residents, local partners and other agency personnel.
Werner Loehlein, water management specialist with the Corps, explained current water levels since the last dam safety meeting held in September.
"East Branch is a multiple-purpose project, with its two primary purposes flood control and low water regulation for water quality," Loehlein said.

Retired Elk Co. Coroner honored

RIDGWAY - Longtime former Elk County Coroner Lou Radkowski was honored with a citation from the Pa. House of Representatives at the Elk County Republican Party Spring Banquet held at the Royal Inn in Ridgway Tuesday.
State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Elk/Clearfield) said he was taking a moment to "shift out of his political hat and into his ceremonial hat" in presenting Radkowski with the citation.

Strike at CSM continues

RIDGWAY TWP. - Members of Local Labor Union 2448 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers [IAMAW] voted overwhelmingly Saturday night to go on strike against Clarion Sintered Metals [CSM] in order to obtain their goals of less mandatory overtime, a better pension plan and the same percentage wage for workers.
