The Ridgway Area School District Board of Directors voted against participating in a co-op swimming program with the St. Marys Area School District during Tuesday night's regular meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Michael O'Brien said even though the board did not reach an agreement Tuesday night they will continue to work toward instituting a co-op program.
Chapter Championships proved to be a successful endeavor for the 2012 indoor performance groups from Elk County Catholic and St. Marys Area high schools. A standing-room-only crowd gathered inside the SMA gymnasium and witnessed both the ECC and SMA colorguards finish their regular season undefeated and be crowned Chapter 11 Champions. Also named Chapter Champs were the SMA dance team and drumline as well as the ECC drumline, which brought home a close second-place finish.
Forty-two groups of percussion, colorguard, dance and baton twirlers competed in the 2012 championships.
At Thursday's meeting of the SMASD Board of Directors, board members approved a resolution declaring their support for legislation and legislative reform measures that would ease financial burdens and constraints placed on school districts statewide.
