ST. MARYS - The Elk County Rural Reading Project is hosting a special movie night kickoff event Friday evening at South St. Marys Street Elementary School in an effort to collect 600 new books as part of the program's inaugural book drive event.
RIDGWAY – Matt Marusiak of Western Pennsylvania Conservancy gave a special presentation on source water protection and conservation easements at Monday's meeting of the Elk County Gas Task Force.
Marusiak, a land protection specialist for the conservancy, has an office in Ridgway and a territory that covers the entire 12-county region of the PA Wilds. He has a degree in petrochemical engineering and has worked on the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission and for the planning department of Elk County.
OX TWP. – Area residents now have a more convenient way of redeeming their Giant Eagle fuelperks! as the chain opened one of three new GetGo locations today in Fox Township. GetGo is located at the former site of Country Fair along the Million Dollar Highway across from Wal-Mart.
According to a press release issued on Monday by Giant Eagle, the location is one of three new GetGo convenience stores and fueling stations opening today. The other two locations are in Brookville and Titusville.
Participants in this year's middle school World Studies Club's field trip to Wallops Island spoke before the St. Marys Area School Board of Directors at their recent meeting about the importance and positive impact of the annual outing.
SMAMS Guidance Counselor Kate McGonnell began by showing the board members a slide show of photos taken during the trip.
"The school board needs to see what happens on this trip because you approve it," she said.
