WEEDVILLE – The Jay Township Board of Supervisors at Thursday's meeting were reluctant to offer guarantees that the township would back an estimated $220,000 in loans for an upcoming Water Authority project.
Water Authority Board Chairman John Friday said in order to secure the loans needed to implement updates to the water treatment plant, the loaner bank is requesting a third party to act as cosigner, guaranteeing the loan would be repaid if the Water Authority were to default.
The Community Nurses Used Book Sale for Hospice is less than a month away and donations of old books are currently being sought.
The first collection will be held on Wednesday, May 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the St. Marys Catholic Middle School, with additional collections to follow on Wednesday, May 30 from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 1 from 12 to 4 p.m., and Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Books will also be accepted on June 4 and 5 all day in the SMCMS cafeteria.
RIDGWAY - At Monday’s meeting of the Elk County Gas Task Force, Conservation District Manager Steve Putt said that Ridgway has been awarded a small educational grant to place awareness signs near public drinking water systems.
ST. MARYS – Eligible homeowners and renters should act now to take advantage of a state property tax/rent reduction program before the June 30 deadline.
In 2006, the Taxpayer Relief Act was signed into law. The act established the Property Tax Relief Fund to enable the use of gaming revenue to reduce property taxes for homeowners.
Deb Wensel literally followed in her husband’s footsteps when she began her Kane teaching career in 1984.
Craig Wensel’s shift to the high school that year left an opening for a math teacher at the middle school. His wife, Deb gave up her post-college role as a “stay-at-home mom” to fill the vacancy.
“I inherited his job,” Wensel joked as she reflected on a 28-year teaching career that will end in the three weeks with her retirement.
