RIDGWAY - At Tuesday's meeting of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, Recycling/Solid Waste Coordinator Bekki Titchner said a revised lease agreement was received from North Central for the entire warehouse building used for storage and additional square footage in the Elk County Community Recycling Center at their space in the Stackpole Complex in St. Marys.
ST. MARYS - As the St. Marys Community Pool gets ready to open for the season, area residents should be aware that weekend hours will be modified based on attendance in past years.
"We've been looking at the number of people who come to the pool on the weekends and it seems like the time from 5 on to closing is not very well-attended, so we decided to just open an hour earlier because there have been some requests from different people about opening earlier on the weekends, so we are trying that this year," said St. Marys Community Pool Manager Gregory L. Snelick.
RIDGWAY - The Elk County Commissioners on Tuesday voted to approve an agreement with Palmetto Posting, Inc., and county officials for the posting of delinquent tax notices on properties for which delinquent taxes are owed.
John Samick and Katie Krise from the county's Tax Claims office were on hand Tuesday morning to discuss the change.
ST. MARYS - At a recent stroke prevention seminar at Elk Regional Health Center's Education Center, some of the discussion focused on treatments available to stroke victims.
Katherine Brem, an occupational therapist with Elk Regional, said that recovery begins in the acute care hospital once a stroke victim is declared medically stable. Brem said it is at this point that the caregiver needs of a patient are assessed, with a physician determining a patient's strengths and deficits in designing a rehabilitation plan for them.
The St. Marys City Council approved to publish the city's ordinance on regulating oil and gas operations during their Monday evening meeting.
The ordinance includes an amended provision of the St. Marys City Code in order to conform with the state's requirements under Act 13.
Matt Pfeufer, zoning enforcement officer, stated to council that the only significant change in the ordinance was an addition for the approval time period for permitted use. The time period set by the act is 30 days; the zoning ordinance currently lists a time frame of 90 days.
