During Monday's meeting of the St. Marys City Council, Councilman Ned Jacobs criticized the city's maintenance of a road belonging to the St. Marys Municipal Airport Authority as a misapplication of city tax dollars.
Jacobs said he received a phone call from a resident asking why the city was performing grading of the private road around the airport, "mainly the east and south sides running parallel to the runway."
The Fox Township Supervisors discussed the ongoing topic of the use of township soccer fields by the Elk County Catholic High School soccer team .
An approval of the team's application was tabled during the June meeting. The supervisors did not vote on any contract or addendum at the meeting.
Supervisor Dave Mattiuz created a proposed addendum to the team's rental contract with the park for the 2012 season.
Editor’s note: This is the first in a series celebrating the St. Marys Public Library’s 100 years of service to area residents.
Diana Smith could probably write a book about her experience working at the St. Marys Public Library since 1969—and chances are, she’d know exactly where to find it on the shelves, too.
Now working exclusively with interlibrary loans, Smith has also manned the reference desk and assisted clients with finding books or answers, as well as working in the office. A chance interaction led to her longtime association with the library.
It was sunny and humid on Thursday, with the temperature reportedly in the mid-80s early in the afternoon-- perfect weather for the estimated 130 area youth who took part in Memorial Park's annual Inner Park Day.
According to Ben and Luke Daghir, recreation assistants at the park and co-coordinators of Inner Park Day, there were 10 different events this year and participants were split up into 10 groups based on age and gender. The event was open to boys and girls between the ages of five and 14 years old.
