Tidioute homicide suspect captured

52-year-old Randy Lee Poole, of Tidioute, has been arrested and charged with burglary and criminal homicide following the Dec. 20 murder of Kathleen Sweeney in Deerfield Township.

JAY TWP. - The Jay Township Board of Supervisors announced plans to commission an engineering study of flooding and storm water problems plaguing a number of houses along Hickory Avenue in Weedville, but the issue raised questions as to whether the township or property owners directly affected should foot the bill.

Former RFD treasurer pleads guilty to fraud

RIDGWAY - A former Ridgway Fire Department Treasurer was in Elk County Court Friday where he accepted a plea deal on charges that he misused over $15,000 in company funds between March 2008 and October 2009.

Mental health care equally important in wake of tragedy

Following last week's mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., that left nearly 30 people dead, many of them children, an increased focus has been placed on the issue of gun control. With guns at the forefront of national discussion, an equally important issue-- providing adequate help for those with mental health issues-- has been overshadowed.
Dr. Micah T. Hoffman, a licensed psychiatrist who grew up in Kersey and is currently practicing in Los Angeles, attributed this stigma to decades of a lack of understanding of what mental illness actually is.
