BROOKVILLE — Testimony about a jailhouse confession by Steven P. Rebert emerged during his Aug. 11, 2010, preliminary hearing in the shooting deaths of Victoria and Wayne Shugar, and Thursday, the man who allegedly heard the confession testified for the prosecution Thursday.
Joel Eagleson, formerly of Phoenix, Ariz., now residing in Batavia, N.Y., told the jury about a 15- to 20-minute conversation he and Rebert had in early June 2010, after Rebert had been arrested by authorities in Genessee County, N.Y., for possession of a weapon.
Tax documents for 2011 will soon start arriving in the mail, and it is never too soon to start getting organized to ensure a maximum refund with minimal difficulties.Â
Jennifer Jenkins, Internal Revenue Service media relations for Ohio and Western Pa., had some basic tips to offer taxpayers.Â
“The first thing most people wonder is what's the deadline to file, and this year the deadline is Tuesday, April 17,” Jenkins said.Â

For the second consecutive year, the City of St. Marys is anticipating a decrease in its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.
"It's been determined there will be another decrease in 2012; however, we don't have any figures as of yet," said City of St. Marys Community Development Block Grant Coordinator, Tina Gradizzi.
The city's 2011 entitlement was $326,731, down about 21 percent from 2010.
Gradizzi conducted the first of two public hearings in conjunction with the City Council meeting held Monday evening.
ST. MARYS - Community Nurses, Inc. is overstocked with the influenza vaccine and as a result is offering flu shots free of charge to anyone who hasn't already received the immunization this year.
Anne Bauer, marketing director/public relations with Community Nurses, said the abundance and availability of the immunization throughout the area has resulted in the surplus.
As people try to put into practice some of their New Year's resolutions to become healthier, happier and live longer, they might want to talk to Marge (Schaberl) Forster, who can probably give them some insight into how to go about it.
The St. Marys resident just turned 98 years young in November 2011. A sign on one of the barns at her home reads "The Forster Farm - Hard Work, Love, Faith." Forster said the words on the sign, which was created by her grandson T.J. DaMore, represent the motto she lives by.

Acting on a memo from Pam Cousins, the county's director of the Children & Youth department, Elk County Commissioners paid homage to a worthwhile group hailing from Wilcox during a board meeting Tuesday morning.
BROOKVILLE — A forensic pathologist testified Tuesday that while gunshot wounds to the neck and trunk killed Wayne Shugar, there were also two areas of hemorrhaging under his scalp.
He also testified that Wayne Shugar's wife, Vicky, died of a gunshot would to the trunk, and chipping defects on her fingernails were defensive wounds, suggesting that perhaps she was fighting off an attacker.
In an effort to obtain $20,000 in Performance Grant funding from the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), City Council was asked to consider offering an annual curbside garden waste collection in order to become 100 percent compliant with Recycling ACT 101.
Tina Gradizzi, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) coordinator for St. Marys, explained the details of the project during Monday evening's council meeting. At that time, she also conducted a brief public hearing describing the 2012 CDBG program.
BROOKVILLE — The son of a slain Snyder Township couple took the witness stand Tuesday during the second day of Steven P. Rebert's double-homicide trial, saying that when he arrived at his parents' home and found both of their vehicle parked in the driveway, he began fearing the worst.
Jason Shugar, a son of the victims — Victoria and Wayne Shugar, Coal Tipple Road — said he last spoke to his parents Saturday, April 10, 2010, and described how his mother had asked him to help with removing some items in a second-floor room that the couple wanted to refurbish.
