Cafeteria debt for the St. Marys Area School District is at a low of $1,796.62 as reported by SMASD Superintendent Ann Kearney during a recent school board workshop.
Kearney credits Jennifer Asti, director of food services for the district, in her efforts of significantly decreasing the debt.
Just a few years ago the debt was as high as $8,000. Kearney stated the debt is much lower than it typically is this time of year.
Anyone traveling in the vicinity of the Catholic Community Center, located at 142 Church St., on weekday afternoons may have noticed a sign outside the building inviting teens to iCafe.
iCafe has been in existence in some form for a number of years, but only started being open on an almost daily basis about a year ago when John Amoratis took over as the youth minister for St. Marys' three Catholic parishes.
