Mayor encourages decreasing parking fines

During a recent St. Marys City Council meeting, Mayor Sally Geyer brought up the issue of repealing the $5 parking ticket fine and decreasing it to a lesser amount. She mentioned the idea as a topic of discussion at the conclusion of the meeting.
"I think its a very big deterrent to downtown shopping. It's a thorn in everyone's side, it's upsetting a lot of people," Geyer said.

Recycling center partners with eLoop

RIDGWAY – The Elk County Community Recycling Center has recently partnered up with eLoop LLC, a Pittsburgh-based electronics recycling center that operates throughout the state. eLoop will be the new collector of electronics for the center which recently ended its deal with Eco International who closed their doors late last month.

Kane driver in 6-fatality wreck is arraigned

A Kane woman charged with manslaughter as a drug-influenced driver in a horrific six-fatality traffic accident Aug. 31 was arraigned Tuesday.
Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman said he conducted the preliminary arraignment proceeding for Kathleen S. Douglas, 37, in her room at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
