Each year Jenny and Allan Sylvis share their love of Halloween by creating unique haunted houses at their St. Marys home, which they open up to the general public on Halloween night.
This year is no different as the couple has put their own spin on works by famed author Edgar Allan Poe. Their 2013 haunted house ,"Madness of Poe", features five rooms each based on one of Poe's profound short stories or poems.
Throughout her years organizing the Christmas in Kentucky program, local teacher Laura Kuntz has serviced over 150 less fortunate families since the program's inception in 1996.
Each year Kuntz travels 10 hours to Beatyville, Ky. where she works with two social workers in setting up a gift shop and distributing the items to those in need.
"None of this could be done without the support of the people of the St. Marys area," Kuntz said.
St. Marys City Manager Dave Greene reported on his activities over the past month during the latest St. Marys City Council meeting.
Also during the meeting resident Warren Stewart requested the light at the Ford Road intersection be looked at as the green signal is very short, typically only allowing one car through each cycle.
