City workers detail winter road maintenance activities

Whether area residents like it or not winter weather has officially arrived in St. Marys, and the first snowfalls of the season typically go hand-in-hand with complaints about winter road maintenance.
According to City Manager Dave Greene, in addition to the roughly 76 miles of roads in St. Marys that are maintained by the city, there are also various state roads within the city limits that are under PennDOT's jurisdiction.
"We work closely with PennDOT to see that those things are taken care of," Greene said.

Dollinger to march with Marine Band in Macy's parade

This year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature a familiar face as Corporal Liz Dollinger, a 2011 St. Marys Area High School graduate, is set to march with the East Coast Composite Marine Band in which she plays clarinet. The band is projected to pass through the red carpet area of the parade at around 10:45 a.m.

Curbside recycling program set to continue

J.R. Geitner, a Ridgway Borough Council member, attended the Elk County Solid Waste Authority's regular meeting on Tuesday afternoon in order to announce the council's decision to continue the borough's curbside recycling program.
The decision was made during an executive session on Monday evening and is reportedly final. Geitner was in favor of the decision along with council members Nina Stolburg, Heather Mader, and Frank Quattrone. Those voting against the resolution were Ralph Dussia, John Casolo and Rich Parrish.
