Update provided on parking, signage, drainage project

Legislative action regarding Creekside Investments, LLC, the project developer for the proposed downtown St. Marys hotel, was tabled during Monday evenings St. Marys City Council meeting.
As discussed at a previous meeting the project consists of a 65-room national flag hotel as proposed by developer Todd "Booka" Hanes of St. Marys.

Northampton man's hunt to be featured on television show

QUEHANNA – Jim Scharnitz of Northampton got to have the experience of a lifetime on Monday morning as he successfully harvested a 7x6 bull elk while hunting with his father and guides from Elk County Outfitters.
The 25-year-old explained that he has applied for the drawing most years but not every year, and found out that he was one of the 26 hunters drawn for an antlered tag after a guide called him to let him know he had been selected.

17 elk harvested as of Monday afternoon

QUEHANNA – As of just after 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon a total of 17 elk had been brought to the Pennsylvania Game Commission's elk check station in Quehanna. The animals were all harvested on the opening day of this year's elk hunt and consisted of seven bulls and 10 cows. The 17 tags were among 86 awarded to hunters this year, with 26 tags being drawn for antlered elk and 60 for antlerless.

Key municipal seats on the line Tuesday

Elk County voters will decide several key municipal races at the polls Tuesday.
At the county level, voters will be asked whether or not to retain current President Judge Richard A. Masson as Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, 59th Judicial District, for Cameron and Elk Counties.

Firefighter dies in line of duty

FOX TWP. – Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department officials on Saturday afternoon confirmed the death of Blaine "Skeeter" Wildnauer Jr.
Initial reports indicate Wildnauer, 58, of Lovers Lane, Kersey, went into cardiac arrest and died at the scene of a Saturday morning traffic crash at 310 Old Kersey Rd.

Rep. Thompson addresses issues in Kane visit

This sums up what’s going through the mind of U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson as he deals with many of the Obama Administration policies and programs.
The congressman from Centre County discussed various federal issues during a recent visit to the Kane Republican office. His remarks indicate a high level of exasperation with the president.
For starters, Thompson believes the administration has the “wrong priorities” for managing the Allegheny National Forest (ANF).

Police chief graduates FBI training program

St. Marys City Police Chief Todd Caltagarone recently graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.
Known for its academic excellence, the program offers 10 weeks of professional courses of study in advanced investigative, management and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies.
Caltagarone completed the program on Sept. 20, 2013 as part of its 254th session. FBI Director James Comey was the principal speaker at the ceremony.

Bail change is made for driver in 6-fatality crash

KANE – A change was made Friday in the bail for Kathleen S. Douglas-- a Kane woman facing manslaughter charges in a horrific Aug. 31 traffic accident that killed six.
Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman said Friday that the bail for Douglas will remain at $750,000. However, the "bail type" is now listed as "unsecured" rather than "monetary."
