LIFT ramps up fundraising efforts

Life and Independence for Today (LIFT) is reaching out to area businesses and individuals to join them in raising funds to purchase portable ramps as part of their Ramp Drive.
"Through this drive, it is our intent to purchase 10-15 portable ramps to meet the temporary needs of people with disabilities, with the cost of the ramps ranging from $300-$700," explained Hope Weichman, LIFT deputy director.

Personnel items approved by school board

The St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors approved several personnel items during their recent meeting. All employment recommendations are provisional for 30 days pending receipt of Act 151 and Act 34 clearance documentation and pre-employment drug testing if applicable. Supplemental contracts were awarded, homebound teachers were hired along with support personnel and substitutes. One unpaid leave of absence was approved.

Family of murder victim marks her 19th birthday

MT. JEWETT – Despite a frigid, windy night, there was a warm glow in the air as the family of murder victim Alyssa Forsyth gathered at her grave to mark her 19th birthday.
The 45-minute vigil included the lighting of 19 large candles at the young woman's grave at Bridgeview Cemetery off Kushequa Avenue in Mt. Jewett.
More than 25 family members and friends, wearing heavy winter coats and hats and gloves, stood at the grave to sing "Happy Birthday" and other songs.
