Elk County polling places will open at 7 a.m. tomorrow for the municipal primary election.
While last year's general election saw ballots cast by 13,474 or 66.37 percent of Elk County's 20,302 registered voters, the municipal election in 2011 only gathered 7,918 or 39.38 percent voter turnout, this according to the County Elections Office.
In addition, the municipal primary held in that year had even lower turnout, with just over a third of registered voters showing up to cast their votes.
This year, 146 candidates filed petitions to be on Elk County ballots this year.
In 2006, the Community Nurses held a one-day used book sale offering several hundred books available for purchase for a small fee, and the event was held in the small library adjacent to the cafeteria at Sacred Heart Activity Center to raise money for their hospice program. Since that time, the sale has continued to grow and now typically has over 10,000 used books available for purchase at the St. Marys Catholic Middle School cafeteria over a four-day period.
