Federal budget sequestration sapping regional grant dollars

RIDGWAY – Ripple effects of the federal budget sequester in Washington D.C. are already being felt in our area with everything from schools to public legal defenders bracing for, or already experiencing, funding cuts. But the latest blow has been dealt to the North Central Pa. Regional Planning and Development Commission, a largely grants-driven regional program in charge of distributing governmental funds to area communities, industry, economic growth, workforce quality, and business opportunity.

Managers report spurs discussion of projects

St. Marys City Manager Dave Greene presented his activity report during the recent City Council meeting. Among the topics discussed were the proposed hotel project for downtown St. Marys, flooding issues within the city and city expenditures pertaining to contracting out the painting of crosswalks.

Flags placed on veterans' graves Wednesday evening

By the time Tom Price, Sergeant in Charge of the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail, arrived at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening, a number of volunteers were already waiting to help place around 2,000 American flags on veterans' graves throughout the cemetery ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
