ST. MARYS â€“ With school dances a nearly ubiquitous, albeit expensive rite of passage for students, two local women are collecting gowns to be given away to those teens that may otherwise be unable to afford them.
WEEDVILLE â€“ State police have arrested a man they say broke into the Weedville residence of an ex-girlfriend before passing out drunk on her couch while waiting for her to come home. According to reports, 55-year-old Raymond L. Archuleta, of 23163 Caledonia Pike in Weedville, told police he just wanted "to visit with her," referring to ex-girlfriend Mona M. Burke, when he allegedly climbed into her home through a broken window on June 25.
The City of St. Marys Police Department reports responding to a one-vehicle traffic crash that occurred Saturday morning, June 29 at 5:45 a.m. on Bucktail Road near Benzinger Road. A passenger in the vehicle, William Cooney, 18 and the 17-year old juvenile driver were transported to Elk Regional Medical Center by St. Marys Area Ambulance for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was later transferred by medical helicopter to Altoona General Medical Center for further treatment. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.
FOX TWP. â€“ Eighteen months of preparation culminated Friday evening as Fox Township kicked off its Bicentennial Celebration. An opening ceremony was held at 7 p.m. at the Fox Twp. Community Park followed by a fireworks display.
The ceremony began with the singing of the National Anthem by Brianna Pontzer, a Fox Twp. resident. This was followed by Ernie Mattiuz of the Elk County Farm Bureau, sharing information on some of the contents uncovered in a time capsule buried at The Toby Grange in 1976.
BRADFORD â€“ Police on Thursday arrested a McKean County man who they say used his computer to look up and download child pornography.
Christopher Williams Abrams, 28, of 20 Burnside Ave. in Bradford was charged after police conducting undercover surveillance on a "peer to peer file sharing program," reportedly traced pornographic images of sex acts involving boys and girls, some as young as three years-of-age, back to his computer.
RIDGWAY â€“ The North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission announced at Wednesday's meeting that it has renegotiated $38,000 off of $205,482 in annual leases on three of its six Careerlink properties as part of continued efforts to streamline organization expenditures.
The Fox Township Bicentennial Celebration kicks off today with the opening of vendor booths at 3 p.m. Among this weekend's highlights are firework displays, a parade, food and beverage vendors, concerts and much more taking place at numerous venues within the Main Street area.
The opening ceremony is slated for tonight at 7 p.m. at the Fox Twp. Community Park, followed by a grand firework display after dark.
ERIE â€“ A St. Marys man who pleaded guilty on April 18 to the theft of $500,000 from the Elk County Humane Society is asking to be released from federal custody until his September sentencing.
On June 24, Richard A. Danz filed a motion for release in which his attorneys argue that their client was incorrectly labeled a "flight risk" by prosecutors. Defense attorneys claim when Danz, age 48, and his family left their St. Marys home on Aug. 29, 2012, for Matthews, N.C., he was unaware that criminal charges had been filed against him in Elk County that same day.

According to the Elk County Office of Emergency Services/9-1-1 Facebook page, DuBois received 5.87 inches of rain between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
McKEAN CO. â€“ A New York man and convicted sex offender who evaded authorities for over 12 years has been found living in McKean County.
