RIDGWAY – "Mickey Mouse," "Anyone but this guy," "What?" and "Who?" were among the write-in votes penned by Elk County balloters in the May 22 municipal primary, according to results obtained through the Elk County Elections Office Friday.

EMPORIUM – On Nov. 5, 2012, a woman walked into the Cameron County Probation Office holding a shipment of stimulant "bath salts" intended for her son, which she had intercepted and wanted turned over to police.

Area youth attend dinosaur dig for summer reading program kickoff

Around 100 area youngsters attended the Dinosaur Dig Kickoff event for the St. Marys Public Library's summer reading program on Thursday afternoon. The hourlong event was geared toward children in prekindergarten through fifth grade and featured a variety of activities related to dinosaurs.

Two teens charged in Ridgway crime spree

RIDGWAY - Two teens have been charged in a crime spree that spanned two days and most of Ridgway Borough and which police say began with the vandalization of parked cars, progressed to their burglarization of an apartment building, and ended with the twosome joyriding in a stolen car.

O'Dells Lock and Key opens storefront

O'Dells Lock and Key opened up shop at 208 Brusselles St. and celebrated their new storefront with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce.
Owner Nathan O'Dell started his business in 2010 as a mobile locksmith and decided to open a storefront in January. The business is located across the road from Sheetz.
The shop is currently opened with temporary hours of Monday through Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and Friday from 1-7 p.m.

St. Marys native sentenced for Ohio sex crimes

CUYAHOGA CO., OHIO - Russell Mason, 33, originally of St. Marys and most recently a resident of Wilcox, was sentenced to serve three years imprisoned in Ohio's Lorain Correctional Institution for his attempted rape of a 12-year-old girl in Cleveland.

Supervisors to request road sign, advertise timber sale bids

The Fox Township Supervisors approved several items during their Wednesday evening meeting. One of which was submitting a request to PennDOT to install a 'Watch Children' sign near 850 Brandycamp Road.

"Color Me Dance" recital showcasing area students

This weekend students of April School of Dance will take to the stage to showcase their year-long efforts as part of the school's annual recital, "Color Me Dance," taking place on Friday and Saturday evening at St. Marys Area High School auditorium.

PHARE funding to back $6 million Ridgway construction project

RIDGWAY – A new, $6 million senior housing complex is in the works for Ridgway, funded in large part by a federal tax credit designed to offset the diminishing effects of Marcellus Shale activity on affordable housing statewide. With Pittsburgh-based real estate development company TREK behind the venture, Project Manager Trey Barbour announced during Tuesday's meeting of the Elk County Board of Commissioners his company's plans to begin construction by year's end, with the undertaking expected to last between 10 and 12 months.

ST. MARYS – At 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening, police and tactical officers poured into Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys in response to reports of a man with a gun and eight shot inside a wing of the hospital. It was all part of ERHC's emergency preparedness drill, part of ongoing efforts to bolster procedures in the event of an actual emergency.
