Members of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority were given a tour of the Greentree Landfill Tuesday, led by Don Henrichs of Veolia Environmental Services and area manager of the landfill.

Former headmaster leaves 40 percent of estate to ECCHS

On Tuesday morning Fr. Philip M. Oriole, executor of the estate of Monsignor John B. Hagerty, was on hand at Elk County Catholic High School to present a check in the amount of $120,000 to be used for tuition assistance and scholarships. While the check represents the bulk of the amount ECC will be receiving from the estate of Hagerty, a former headmaster at the school, Oriole noted that he will be returning later in the year once the estate is completely wrapped up to present an additional check.

Council requests to meet with Shade Tree Commission

St. Marys City Council has requested members of the Shade Tree Commission attend a future council meeting in order to discuss several issues involving the organization.

Solid Waste Authority seeks new electronics recycling contractor

The Elk County Solid Waste Authority has recently been notified of the closing of their current electronics recycling contractor, Eco International. The company plans to close its doors by the end of the year.

Monday evening's Elk County Conservation District Meeting also marked the District's 51-year anniversary. The District, one of 66 throughout Pennsylvania, began its first year in September of 1962.

Barr takes over as new St. Marys Public Library director

Area residents who have visited the St. Marys Public Library recently have likely seen a new face behind the counter and putting together the organization's programs. Leslie Barr, a native of Kersey who currently resides in DuBois, took over as director earlier this summer, replacing former director Scarlette Corbin.

City's employees' pension plan working to fund itself

The city's contributions to its employees' pension plans are decreasing, a positive note as the program is helping to fund itself in addition to the state's contribution under Act 205 of the Pa. Public Employee Retirement Commission.

Heindls donate to DRMC's Lung Center

DuBois Regional Medical Center, an affiliate of Penn Highlands Healthcare, recently received its largest donation as Denny and Rose Heindl of Ridgway pledged a gift of $300,000 over three years for The Lung Center at DRMC West.
